American Airlines Resumes Flights After Being Grounded
The eager travelers can now go back to their destinations
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has lifted a ground stop for all American Airlines flights in the U.S., which had been briefly grounded due to an unspecified “technical issue.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that the nationwide ground stop for all American Airlines flights has been lifted.
Earlier, a technical issue had disrupted the carrier’s entire system, but it has now been resolved, and operations are back online.
However, delays may continue following the hour-long outage, with Flightradar24 noting on X that it will take time to return to normal schedules. Flights are expected to resume departing on time by the afternoon.
- The FAA briefly grounded all American Airlines flights nationwide due to a technical issue, which has now been resolved, though delays may persist as operations normalize.
- The disruption affected flights during the busy holiday season, with American Airlines temporarily grounding flights, including those to 15 European countries.
- American Airlines apologized for the inconvenience, attributing the issue to a vendor technology problem that has since been resolved.
Flights To Europe Were Temporarily Grounded
The disruption occurred during one of the busiest travel times of the holiday season, when millions of people were traveling, including trips back to Europe.
American Airlines, which serves 15 European countries including the UK, France, Germany, and Italy, requested a “nationwide groundstop” for its flights, including those operated by its subsidiaries, according to the FAA’s website.
This grounding comes at a critical time, with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) estimating it will screen 40 million passengers during the holiday travel period, which lasts until January 2.
Airline Company Apologizes For The Delay
In response to frustrated travelers on social media, the airline assured:
Our team is working to resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience.
Later, the company released a statement explaining, A vendor technology issue briefly disrupted flights this morning.”
They added, “The issue has been resolved, and flights are now back on track. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused earlier today.”
The statement concluded with, “Our team is fully committed to getting customers to their destinations as quickly as possible.”
